While at first glance all the images I picked may seem odd, I hope you see some sort of eruption or call to action. I want the symbols that I’ve picked out to resonate with you and remind you of the ongoing injustices that these marginalized groups face. I hope you see Dr. Anonymous as an abstract force that represents Dr. Fryer but also that you see this figure as someone you can also be. All of us have something to fight for

Created in response to the Dr. Anonymous presentation, a protest staged by Dr. John Freyer at the 1972 American Psychiatric Association annual meeting. While in 1972, homosexuality was classified as a mental disorder, Dr. Freyer’s protest contributed to its eventual removal from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Image Description: Pictured is a butterfly, an angel, a volcano, a gravestone, a skeleton holding a rose, a rainbow, a person in a wheelchair, and a figure made of a mask, an arm, and a sculpture with a cape.
